My Weight Loss Struggle

This is the meat of 3 Week Diet book. The whole idea of this plan is to give signals to your body to burn its fat quickly by focusing on creating a calorie deficit, employing short-term fasting and engaging in a low-carbs diet. The 3 Week Diet is broken down into four phases.

Each week, you will begin a new phase. The purpose of these phases is to maximize fat loss early on while introducing more and more whole foods into your diet, eventually resulting in a nutritionally balanced and complete diet which will ensure proper health and healthy weight for the rest of your life.

Phase #1 (Days 1-7) : Detoxification

As the name of this product described, this diet plan is an extreme diet plan- created for everyone who wants to lose weight and burn body fat fast as much as 23 pounds in just 21 days. This extreme diet can definitely help if you’re looking to change your life around and lose weight fast but be warned: you WILL have to change your diet so if this is something you are not ready to do you should look for other alternatives.

The 3 Week Diet in Review

Now, here is the meat of this 3 Week Diet review. Before I started following this diet plan, my initial weight was about 165 pounds. My ambition was to lose at least 10 pounds and reduce the fat around my stomach area. This extreme diet plan was hard to follow, but I just did the best that I could. 3 Week Diet Phases

The first phase is the liver detoxification phase where it cleanses my gut and detoxifies my liver (your fat pumping organ). The diet plan suggests that by increasing certain vitamins (getting more of Vitamin A, D and C), it can effectively increase my insulin sensitivity and increase my body’s adrenal function, which is imperative for fat mobilization.

In order to get more of these vitamins (A, D and C), I eat only from allowed foods such as bokchoy, broccoli, cabbage, spinach and some other vegetables. I also allowed to consume selected protein sources such as chicken, fish and eggs. All food were prepared accordingly to the meal plan suggested inside the book.

In the first week, I didn’t drink any coffee or tea. Just drink a minimum of 1 gallon per day. I skipped all my breakfast and only took my first meal at noon – maximum 4 meals per day.

Each day, I spent about 15 minutes doing simple exercise like front plank and side plank. I didn’t go to the gym because I had no time to do so.

It was hard to adapt the changes in my meal. I feel a lack of energy because of low calories in the body. There were times I had to eat some snacks to get some energy when I was working. By the end of the first phase, I lose about 4 pounds. Not bad, though.

Next day, I went on fasting for 24 hour period – from the last dinner of day #7 until next dinner on day #8. This is to complete the detox process through autophagy. During this fast, I only drink water and coffee without sugar to reduce hunger levels. No exercise…just relax at home to preserve my energy for the whole day.

The hardest part of the diet

Then came the hardest part where I went through to what Brian called fat fast– low-carbs, high-fat diet. I was shocked to learn that I need to eat more fats (the healthy one) in order to lose fat in my body. I always thought that diet is about eating less fatty foods – but I was wrong.

In this phase, I had to eat high-fat foods from no trans-fat foods like bacon, steaks, avocados, eggs, nuts, seeds, butter, cheese, and mayonnaise and so on. Please do note that these foods contain healthy fat, they are good sources to burn your body fat and help the metabolism.

During these 3 days period, I had to achieve 1200-1500 calories (p/s: 1000-1200 calories for women) from those foods each day. It wasn’t easy to reach the goal without trans-fats and without carbohydrates added in.

I didn’t take the Omega-3 Fish Oil capsules supplement as suggested in the book because I just didn’t want to spend money on it. I still spent some time doing exercises just like in phase #1.

When the phase #3 was over, I lost another 4 pounds. Then came to the last stage of the diet (up to day #21) where I started eating normally compared to previous 14 days. If you’re familiar with common dieting rule “eat less, lose more”, this phase #4 is also working like that.

BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate)

What is BMR? It is called Calorie Restriction based on BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate), where you can create a calorie deficit over time by knowing how many calories you should consume daily. The rule is that – as long you eat under your restricted calorie amount, you will lose weight.

For my case, my unique BMR was 1660.15 calories. Don’t worry if you don’t know how to calculate your unique BMR, you’ll find it inside the book. I can eat anything I want as long it doesn’t pass my unique BMR number.

I was happy to lose about 12 pounds after completing this diet plan. Although not much, I knew that it works. If I want to lose my weight further, I can just eat 10-30% less of my daily BMR.

Now it becomes part of my lifestyle and I don’t need to stay in low-carb diet anymore. After few months have passed, I noticed that my weight is under controlled.

3 Week Diet Review: My Critics

First time I read the 3 Week Diet book, I was confused with diet direction of the book. This diet here is focused on cutting a huge amount of food from your diet based on calories. Pushed to the extreme, you could eat ice cream the entire time because the nutritional are so poor.

Then, there are some part of the diet are extremely fat limiting, other parts are fat focused. The fat section is quite confusing but I figure if I just follow what he suggests in the book I should be good. And I was right!

The good things about Brian Flatt’s diet is his exercises because he has some amazing and helpful exercises. They would be a great way to get variety.The workout is so easy to follow and can be done at home without go to the gymm.
